Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Review

Hello readers !
Under this section, I would like to share my point of view experiencing the performance of Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. Recently, my dearest mother bought me the gadget as a gift for me. Well, as we already informed the price for this particular gadget is quite expensive in our country which cost me for about RM 2200. However, due to the advancement technology nowadays, only for a few months after Samsung gave birth to this product in the market, the price for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is constantly decreasing where you can acquire it for only RM 1800. So because of  that, I quite upset.



So, let's talk about its performance. Does it worth to cost as such high price? What is its speciality and features is actually? The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is a 10.1-inch tablet computer designed, developed and marketed by Samsung Company. The tablet runs Android 4.1.2 and serves as a platform for multimedia consumption includes movies, music, and web browsing. It is the second entry in the Samsung Galaxy Note range, which emphasises the use of S-Pen (S standing for Samsung), as an input device for tasks as sketching and note-taking.

Performance and Multi-tasking



Under the multiscreen option, this feature affords a convenient split-screen view. I can choose from six apps whether S Note, Gallery, Video, Browser, Polaris Office and Email. I can also load a pop-up video player on the upper half of the screen or drag and drop clipboard content from the browser or Gallery to S Note and Polaris Office. Therefore, I would say Samsung able to delivers consistently solid performance to their product.

Battery Life


Speaking about the battery life, I have issue on it. One full charge cycle over the span can up to three days but with light to moderate use. That is with some casual browsing, streaming video consumption, social media monitoring and brief photo-taking. But for my experience, if I am using it with heavy usage the battery won't stay longer which for about a day only. Thus, Samsung needs to fix on this.


S-Pen Apps


Let's focus on what Samsung has done to optimize the table for that S-Pen. From the moment I retrieve the stylus from its in-shell holder, a vertical mini-menu slides out from the screen's right edge displaying five applications and setting option. At this moment, only five applications are designed to take specific advantage of this functionality which are S Note, S Planner, Crayon Physics, Photoshop Touch and Polaris Office. The S-Pen can also be used to take screenshots (just long-press the function button while touching the pen to the screen)

Camera

The Note 10.1 will not be the device that I will rely on for capturing moments. Since the device only obtain 5-megapixel and it can't handle impromptu image capture with any sense of skill. Also, the tab's lack of a full HD screen is extremely apparent here, as it led me to believe that the image I had shot were of inferior quality.

To wrap up my review, I would not strongly recommend others to purchase this device. Since for me, it is not worth as to its price. Even though, the apps and features are fine but Samsung still needs to fix some of its drawbacks. I heard the rumors saying Samsung will come up with new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 version. So, hopefully this new device is strong enough to stay longer in the market and eventually had overcome its prior issues.

How Do Touch-Screen Monitor Know Where You're Touching?

Have any one here know or have an idea on how do touch-screen monitor know where exactly where you are touching? Anyone? If none,let me share with you guys.
Generally there are three basic system that are used to recognize a person's touch. There are known as resistive system, capacitive system and surface acoustic wave system. The resistive system consists of a normal glass panel that is covered with a conductive and a resistive metallic layer. These two layers are held apart by spacers, and a scratch-resistant layer is placed on top of the whole setup. An electrical current runs through the two layers while the monitor is operational. When a user touches the screen, the two layers make contact in that exact spot. The change in the electrical field is noted and the coordinates of the point of contact are calculated by the computer. Once the coordinates are known, a special driver translates the touch into something that the operating system can understand, much as a computer mouse driver translates a mouse's movements into a click or a drag.

In the capacitive system (most smart phones) , a layer that stores electrical charge is placed on the glass panel of the monitor. When a user touches the monitor with his or her finger, some of the charge is transferred to the user, so the charge on the capacitive layer decreases. This decrease is measured in circuits located at each corner of the monitor. The computer calculates, from the relative differences in charge at each corner, exactly where the touch event took place and then relays that information to the touch-screen driver software. One advantage that the capacitive system has over the resistive system is that it transmits almost 90 percent of the light from the monitor, whereas the resistive system only transmits about 75 percent. This gives the capacitive system a much clearer picture than the resistive system.

On the monitor of a surface acoustic wave system, two transducers which one receiving and one sending are placed along the x and y axes of the monitor's glass plate. Also placed on the glass are reflector, they reflect an electrical signal sent from one transducer to the other. The receiving transducer is able to tell if the wave has been disturbed by a touch event at any instant, and can locate it accordingly. The wave setup has no metallic layers on the screen, allowing for 100-percent light throughput and perfect image clarity. This makes the surface acoustic wave system best for displaying detailed graphics (both other systems have significant degradation in clarity).

Another area in which the systems differ is in which stimuli will register as a touch event. A resistive system registers a touch as long as the two layers make contact, which means that it doesn't matter if you touch it with your finger or a rubber ball. A capacitive system, on the other hand, must have a conductive input, usually your finger, in order to register a touch. The surface acoustic wave system works much like the resistive system, allowing a touch with almost any object except hard and small objects like a pen tip.

As far as price, the resistive system is the cheapest whereby its clarity is the lowest of the three, and its layers can be damaged by sharp objects meanwhile the surface acoustic wave setup is usually the most expensive.



So how it works?

There are three components used in touch screen technology:
  • In general the sensors of these three types of system (resistive system, capacitive system and surface acoustic wave system) have an electrical current running through them and touching the screen causes a voltage change. The voltage change signals the location of the touching.
  • The controller, is the hardware that converts the voltage changes on the sensor into signals the computer or other device can receive.
  • Software tells the computer, smartphone, game device, others on what is happening on the sensor and the information coming from the controller. Who's touching what and where, then it allows the computer or smart phone to react accordingly.

Nursebots As The Solution To Elderly Care In Japan

How are you doing? Hope everything fine dear fellas. As for today, I will share short information regarding with the development technology in Japan. Nursebots or robot were created in this country as the solution to care for elders there. The Japanese government is extending financial assistance to companies who can develop low-cost nursing home robots, this as a part of Japan’s push to deal with the issues of having a large population of elderly people and also to help spur economic growth. The government is looking to support the development of robots with limited functions for very specific nursing care tasks, designed to assist elderly people in daily activities, thereby reducing the burden on nursing home workers.

The government has outlined the tasks that need robotic assistance, and there are four major kinds of robots that are included in the development plan ; first is a motorized robot suit that can assist in lifting or moving non-ambulant elderly people so that caretakers do not need to exert as much physical strength. Also included in the plan is the development of an ambulatory robot that can assist the elderly to walk by themselves, even on inclined surfaces. Another logical part of the plan is to develop a portable, self-cleaning robotic toilet that can be placed strategically to make using the toilet easier for the elderly. Lastly, the government is pushing for a monitoring robot that can track the whereabouts of dementia patients who usually wander about and get lost. Starting this fiscal year, the Japanese government will provide subsidies covering 50 to 60 percent of research and development costs to firms who would develop these nursing care robots.

There are already some prototypes and companies who have developed humanoid nursing care robots that can lift and hold patients, but they however remain extremely expensive, costing as much as 20 million yen which approximate to 205,000 dollars each, hence they are not widely used. The Japanese government is shooting for low-cost nursing care robots around the 100,000 yen (1,022 dollars) price range, so that it would be easy to commercialize them via mass production. The Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry is expecting the market for such products to boom, valued at upwards of 400 billion yen (4.09 billion dollars) by 2035. And also according to the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry, Japan has a chronic shortage of nursing care workers, falling short by at least 700,000 of the target number of workers in 2010. The ministry predicts a need for 4 million such workers in 2025. With such low-cost nursing home robotic implements in place, the government is hoping to at least help out the nursing care workers who are in place to do their jobs easier and more efficiently.

iPhone No Longer a Cultural Phenomenon

Apple product was once conquering the market before, but due to the advancement technology nowadays apple product is no longer making a hit. Recently,Apple's product which is iPhone 5S had been officially launched , however it is not preceded with huge anticipation from anxious fans. Apple's iPhone 5S and its cheaper version in plastic 5C has been unveiled on September 10th 2013 but it shows with no great levels of excitement and big crowds.

According to News.com.au, MSN Money said that the reason was a cold response can be attributed to the fact that the new iPhone is no longer a 'cultural phenomenon' as rivals like Samsung are making smartphones that are just as good.

iPhone 5S had the same size of iPhone 5, which means it still be smaller than the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy S4. MSN said that the new device only have a fingerprint reader and have 'tweaks' rather than real advancements and the biggest thing it will lack is major innovation, something for which the software giant was well known for during Steve Jobs days, as the report added.

In my personal opinion, the biggest reason why apple product no longer a cultural phenomenon is because of lack of innovation made by Apple company. While for Samsung itself, they keep producing new design with affordable price. So, Apple needs to take this into consideration, otherwise they will keep falling behind.
